NEW YORK, Feb. 27, 2019—Michael Barry has been appointed Head of the Insurance Information Institute’s (I.I.I.) Communications.
“Mike Barry is a proven leader in our organization and one of the most prominent media professionals in the insurance industry,” said Sean Kevelighan, the I.I.I.’s Chief Executive Officer. “His outstanding communications skills as well as his broad knowledge of the U.S.’s auto, homeowners, and business insurance markets give him the unique credentials we need in this role.”
Barry, the I.I.I.’s New York City-based Senior Vice President, Head of Media and Public Affairs, will report to Kevelighan.
In addition to continuing as a primary I.I.I. spokesperson, Barry will be responsible for developing a communications strategy which expands the I.I.I.’s digital footprint, increases brand awareness, and boosts engagement with the organization’s key stakeholders.
Barry joined the I.I.I. in 2006 after serving as Director of Public Affairs at the New York State Insurance Department. Earlier in his career, the Fordham University graduate was a weekly newspaper reporter and editor on Long Island and the Public Information Officer at the New York State Banking Department. New York’s Insurance and Banking Departments were subsequently merged to form what is today the state’s Department of Financial Services (DFS).
Barry and his wife, Theresa, reside in Manhasset, NY, with their three sons.
The I.I.I. has a full library of educational videos on its YouTube Channel. Information about I.I.I. mobile apps can be found here.
THE I.I.I. IS A NONPROFIT, COMMUNICATIONS ORGANIZATION SUPPORTED BY THE INSURANCE INDUSTRY.
