IICF: Giving Back Through Disaster Relief In 2017

In 2017, the Insurance Industry Charitable Foundation (IICF) ran several disaster relief campaigns beginning in late August, including relief for Hurricanes Harvey, Irma and Maria, and a fund for those affected by the California wildfires. Collectively, contributions to these funds exceeded $630,000, with more than $550,000 donated to hurricane relief, making it the largest IICF disaster relief campaign to date. Along with contributions directly to IICF relief funds (including generous employee donation matching programs), many IICF board member companies conducted their own disaster relief campaigns. In addition to company contributions, more than 1,000 individual donations from insurance professionals were made to IICF relief funds.

Significant contributions were made by insurance companies and donors from all IICF divisions across the U.S., as well as IICF’s UK division based in London. Industrywide, more than $15 million was contributed by the insurance industry to Hurricane Harvey relief.

100 percent of IICF relief funds collected go directly to benefit those affected by these natural disasters, through local nonprofit organizations providing direct assistance to individuals and families in affected communities.
