About Us

Dr. Roy E. Lowrance is the founder and CEO of Applied Data Science and an advisor to venture capital firms on artificial intelligence with 40 years of experience in strategy development, information technology and academia.

Dr. Lowrence was CTO of Capital One where he led advances in credit risk management technologies, and CTO of Reuters where he aligned network technology with the future needs of customers and improved the management of data centers. Prior to that, he was a partner at BCG and at McKenzie & Co, focusing on strategy development and client information technology for financial services. Dr. Lowrence was the lead designer and implementor of New York University’s Center for Data Science’s MS program in Data Science, the first on-campus program in the country, and the lead designer of the Center’s Ph.D. in Data Science as well as NYU’s undergraduate major and minor in data science.

He has a B.A. in Mathematics from Vanderbilt University, an MBA from Harvard Business School, and a Ph.D. in Computer Science from New York University.
