NEW YORK, March 22, 2016 — Insurance Information Institute (I.I.I.) subject matter experts are among the featured participants in the workshops and training sessions at the 2016 National Hurricane Conference (NHC), where they will also be available for media interviews.

Held at the Hilton Orlando, 6001 Destination Parkway, Orlando, Fla., the annual gathering began yesterday (Monday, March 21) and concludes on Thursday, March 24.

The I.I.I.’s participation in the educational programs starts on Wednesday, March 23, with an informal discussion titled Devil in the Details: Facts to Know & Questions to Ask about Insurance. The session is targeted at first responders and government employees to help them better understand their insurance coverage so they can confidently protect their personal assets before a natural disaster strikes.

Jeanne Salvatore, the I.I.I.’s senior vice president, Public Affairs, and chief information officer (Cell: 917-612-4088, email: jeannes@iii.org), is making a presentation on Thursday, March 24, from 10:30 a.m. to noon, on The Plain Truth about Flood Insurance and Flood Plain Management. It features senior leaders from two state-run insurance entities: Florida’s Citizens Property Insurance Corporation and the Texas Windstorm Insurance Association. They will discuss enterprise catastrophe planning and developing a culture of connecting with policyholders before, during and after storms.

The second session (1:30 to 3 p.m.) is titled They Did What?! Human Behavior in Disaster—Expect the Unexpected; the third and final panel (3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m.) McChristian is moderating is Regulating Catastrophe Insurance: What Works and What Doesn’t Work. Both sessions feature experts in academic research who will offer insights into issues that impact disaster planning and readiness.
