NEW YORK, September 24, 2013 — Reporters with questions about the insurance repercussions of Superstorm Sandy, or who are covering the 2013 hurricane season, are encouraged to contact the Insurance Information Institute (I.I.I.)
 
Auto, homeowners and business insurance claim payouts for damage caused by Superstorm Sandy, which struck the East Coast on October 29, 2012, stood earlier this year at about $18.75 billion, according to ISO’s Property Claim Services. Billions of dollars more were paid to flood insurance policyholders after Sandy through FEMA’s National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP).
