NEW YORK, November 12, 2013 — Dr. Robert Hartwig, president of the Insurance Information Institute (I.I.I.) and an economist, will be testifying on Wednesday, November 13, at 10 a.m., before the U.S. House of Representatives’ subcommittee on Housing and Insurance on the “Future of Terrorism Insurance: Fostering Private Market Innovation to Limit Taxpayer Exposure.”
 
Enacted in November 2002, the federal Terrorism Risk Insurance Act (TRIA) established a risk-sharing structure that allows the federal government and the insurance industry to share losses in the event of a major terrorist attack. The successor to TRIA, the Terrorism Risk Insurance Program Reauthorization Act (TRIPRA) of 2007, expires at the end of 2014.
