Insurance regulation is an issue of increasing interest on a global scale. Regulation concerning convergence, globalization and multinationalization are important forces with real consequences for insurers everywhere. But direct regulation of insurers by insurance regulators is arguably only one piece in the regulatory pie. Insurers around the world are increasingly affected by many regulatory, policy and legislative decisions imposed on them by non-insurance regulators. Securities regulators, monetary/fiscal policy authorities and even national security and military decisions are impacting insurance industry more than ever. This presentation takes a broad view of regulation, looking primarily at non-insurance regulatory and policy decisions that profoundly affect insurer operations.
The following presentation is called "The Role of Governments in the Insurance Industry". It was presented by Dr. Robert P. Hartwig on December 2, 2002.
